We're excited to welcome Frank La to the Created Community as our very first brand ambassador. Frank recently took home the gold at the U.S. Barista Championship by successfully competing against 36 of the country's premier baristas. As reigning U.S. Barista Champ, he is now representing the US at the world level.

Frank first took interest in coffee in 2010 and fell in love with the competitive arts in barista competitions. “Barista competitions require a unique and specific set of skills to be able to make three drinks for a panel of three judges — all within fifteen minutes. As soon as I saw it, I was hooked.”

Frank describes himself as a competitive person who wanted to see increased representation of diversity in the coffee industry: “At that time, I didn’t see a lot of representation like mine on the stage, which I saw as a deficiency. I wanted to change that and do the best I could. Finally, 10 years later, I accomplished my goal of becoming the U.S. Barista Champion, and I’m really proud and happy about that.”

“Winning this year’s barista competition is really special because the World Barista Championship is happening in Busan, South Korea and I’m Korean and to be able to represent the U.S. as a Korean, in Korea is super cool. I have family there and they’re going to be there to watch and support. I’m really excited to represent the U.S. in Korea this year.”

Frank La and his wife founded their own cafe in Los Angeles, Be Bright Coffee and have become an important part of the local coffee community here in L.A. In addition to running the cafe, Be Bright Coffee features a weekly pop-up at Smorgasburg, one of the largest open-air food markets in the country.

At his pop-up, Frank can be found not only crafting exceptional coffees, but taking the time to educate customers on brewing techniques while consistently delivering polished drinks that reflect his passion for his craft.
